Pearl said that Irene and her mother lived in Spring Village and would visit Rose's family twice a year. She remembers that Irene taught them how to dance the Charleston, which she would perform with lots of flashy steps and fashionable eye rolling (think Betty Boop). Irene also spoke fluent patois.
