| Note | The only registration of death I can find for a Hugh McCrorie is for one in 1909 for a 74 year old. This would have made him 18 on his marriage in 1853 so it may not be the same one. If it was he remarried after Margaret's death and had another son , Andrew.

| Note | From what I can find out about Ayr in the 19th century it was a thriving port. Hugh Senior appeared to work there occasionally as he is down on 2 of his children's birth entries as a "Porter at Quay" and as a "Quay Labourer" It was also an import ant centre for the wool trade: both Elizabeth and Mary were involved before they married and Hugh Senior worked for a time as a wool trimmer. Apparently transatlantic trade trade commenced initially with the West Indies in the mid 17th century. Cargoes of cloth, shoes and qualified labourers were sent out and products of sugar and tobacco were brought back.
