Source | Généalogie de Wilfrid Jehl Text: In Grussenheim, the first recorded Jehl is Martin Jehl. He is a wealthy farmer. In the records of 1675, there is a mention about the fields he did operate. He operated a lot of them, but all were the propriety of the Parish of Grussenheim, wich at this time owned about two third of the fields in the village. Do note that since the Middle Ages until the French Revolution, the Church was the biggest owner of territorial ownership. That was the time of the feodal system.
Note: The online genealogy of Wilfrid Jehl, who is a descendant of George Wolfgang Strawlin (our ancestor Mathias Straulin's brother) and Catherine Witz (m. 1689).

Note | This is probably NOT the Martin Jehl (I2227)--born c. 1670 in Grussenheim, died 26 jun 1699 in Elsenheim--who married Catherine Rohmer (I2215) on 30 may 1695 in Elsenheim. This Martin was already a farmer in 1675, when the other Martin was only 5 years old. |
