Note:
Rémy's letter says: 6) Jean-Baptiste né le 30.3.1844 à Herrlisheim + le 20.3.1845 à Herrlisheim. Since there is a similar notation for J-B's brother, Michel, I chose to interpret this as meaning that Jean-Baptiste died in 1845. It's also possible that his birth date may be one of the two dates listed, or that he died shortly after childbirth and a subsequent brother was also named Jean-Batiste.

Note:
Rémy's letter says: 6) Michel né le 22.7.1846 à Herrlisheim + le 23.7.1848 à Herrlisheim. Since there is a similar notation for Michel's brother, Jean-Baptiste, I chose to interpret this as meaning that Jean-Baptiste died in 1845. It's also possible that his birth date may be one of the two dates listed, or that he died shortly after childbirth and a subsequent brother was also named Michel.

Note
In Rémy's letter, Antoine and Thérése's children are all listed in chronological order except for Joseph. He comes between Jean-Baptiste (b. 1844) and Michel (b. 1846). This may mean that either 1842 is a typo or that Joseph was incorrectly so rted in the sequence of children.
Note
Then there were two more boys whose ages I never knew. But tragedy seemed to plague the family. First they came across in a sailing vessel and were either six or eight weeks coming across. They came to live in a house on the land which was later the William Strasser farm. ... ...the father was in a hurry to get to the gold fields. But tragedy again struck our family. The largest part of the wagon train left Independence one day. And a day or so later, before the rest could get started, Cholera broke out and the father and the two boys, whose names and ages I do not know, took it and soon passed away.
